TIES (Together Including Every Student)
TIES provides trained volunteers to support students who have developmental disabilities so they can participate in extracurricular and community-based activities with their peers.
TIES Volunteers are Brighton students, in grades 8-12, who have attended a training workshop that presents information about the importance of belonging, disability awareness, friendship building, and effective support strategies. Each volunteer’s commitment to TIES is based on their interests and schedule.
TIES Participants are Brighton students, ages 8-21, who can join any activity they choose. In the past year, TIES has supported Brighton students in activities including:
• School activities FRES Roller Skating Parties, Senior Bash and Banquet, JV lacrosse, & Festival of Ideas
• Town of Brighton Recreation programs - Running & Wrestling Clubs
• TIES programs - drumming circles, cooking classes, & canoeing
• Community activities like Brighton Baseball, religious school, & Scouts.
Benefits: As students, TIES volunteers provide more naturalized support for participants. Without this support, TIES participants might be unable to join activities, need parents to attend with them, or be unable to participate fully.
