The modified level is an introductory level of school team sports and prepares athletes for the JV level and beyond. The philosophy of modified is to maximize participation and playing time for students. This level focuses on the growth of basic skills and sportsmanship. We will make every attempt to include as many students as possible on teams.
Your child can enroll in a sport by going to the Brighton Central School Athletic website and clicking on “Sport Registration” to complete the Medical Eligibility/Parental Permission Form. These forms can be obtained from the Nurse's Office and/or the Athletic Office. This is a medical questionnaire that determines your child medical eligibility for a season. These must be completed within 30 days of the start of the season. Also, students participating in multiple seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring) must complete a new form for each season. In addition to these forms, a student must have a current physical (within 1 year) on file with the school nurse. Please do not use a phone for the registration. If you are having technology issues please contact the athletic office at 242-5000 ext: 4576. Questions regarding physicals can be addressed with the school nurses. Practice times and locations vary depending on sport. However, most team practices are held between 3:00–5:00pm on campus. Coaches will distribute practices schedules at the beginning of the season. The athletic website will always list the first practice day and location.
All modified athletes are required to go to sports study hall after school until the team coach comes to release players. They must be supervised at all times. Once students enter 9th grade they will be allowed to leave campus and return if they choose.
The selection classification process is used to determine a student-athlete's readiness to compete at a higher level of competition. This program permits the accelerated student-athlete to participate safely at the appropriate level of competition. We use the following process to determine a student's readiness:
Student-athletes are required to ride district transportation to and from athletic events. In the event that a unique circumstance necessitates a parent to drive their child, a note is required to the athletic office in advance. With coach approval, athletes are allowed to sign-out after the game and ride home with a parent/guardian. If an athlete needs to ride home with another parent then the driver will need to sign a transportation waiver accepting responsibility and athlete that will be riding along with another family will need a note from parent/guardian releasing district liability to the other parent.
You can view game schedules by going to the Brighton Central School Athletic website and clicking on “Schedules.”
Health and Safety are a top priority at Brighton Central School District. The district does have a full time Athletic Trainer that athletes are allowed to see. Athletes should go to practice and let their coaches know and the coach will release them to the Athletic Trainer. If parents have a question, they can contact the Athletic Trainer.
Any injury that could require medical care needs to be told to the coaching staff so an accident report is completed. If an athlete needs medical service all families primary care insurance will cover expenses. Any expenses not covered by the primary care can be covered by the district. Please keep your receipts.
Once the accident report is completed by the coach it makes its way to the district office. The district office will then send home a packet that allows for you to submit receipts to the insurance company. Please help make sure coaches are aware of the injuries so this form get completed as they are time sensitive for an insurance company to approve them.
The district does have a fitness center program during the school year for the in-season teams only. If an athlete wanted to train year around they would need to talk to the fitness instructor to see if they can be placed with a team that has relatively low numbers. All fitness instructors are highly trained instructors from the University of Rochester.
Students participating on interscholastic athletic teams are expected to exemplify good citizenship and good character both in and out of school. Student-athletes should demonstrate the values of honesty and integrity and have respect for self and others. In addition, as a requirement for participation, student-athletes and their parents agree to abide by the Brighton Central School District Policies and procedures provided in building handbooks.
