Sierra is a 2017 Brighton graduate, who attended SUNY Cortland for her bachelor’s degree. She was a competitive field hockey player, and always had a passion to help athletes as her athletic trainer had done for her in high school. She graduated from SUNY Cortland with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. She had experienced a tragedy due to a sport’s athletic injury, and this drives her to give the best care and prevent any family or classmate to ever have to experience what she had. She started at URMC in November of 2022, and has been giving Brighton care since then.

Her continuous hours of clinical rotations and education on injury prevention, injury rehabilitation, emergency scenario care, anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, and injury recognition prepared her to become certified as an athletic trainer. She had experience in women’s and men’s sports in college at all three collegiate levels while at Cortland. Her experience and expertise allow all student athletes at Brighton to get the best care if they visit Sierra in the athletic training room.

Through her role at URMC, she has plentiful resources to orthopedic doctors, physical therapists, nutrition, sports psychology and strength and conditioning programs that can be utilized by all athletes at Brighton. Sierra will be at almost all home events, and travels with specific sports of football, ice hockey, and boys lacrosse.

Responsibilities and Philosophy

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing health care for all athletes. This includes, but is not limited to, injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation/reconditioning, taping/bracing, organization and administration, and education and counseling. The ATC will be present at most home practices and games as well as some away games.

The health and well-being of our students athletes is of primary importance to the Athletic Department of Brighton Central School District. Therefore, through our relationship with UR Medicine Sports Medicine, we are able to provide the services of a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).

Athletic trainers are healthcare professionals who work under the direction of a physician to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

The Brighton Athletic Trainer strives to establish trusting relationships with the student-athletes, coaching staff, parents and the medical community. These relationships require effective communication between all parties involved and a commitment to do what’s best for the student athlete.

Parents are encouraged to contact the Athletic Trainer with questions regarding the health and well being of their child.
